My Teen Missions Int'l Experience (Argentina 98)
This is an experience you'll never forget What exactly is Teen Missions
Hi there, my name is Melissa, and I spent this summer with
Teen Missions. The reason I created this page is because when I was trying to decide weither or not to go on Teen Missions, I tried to look up information about it the net, but there wasn't much there.
So I've decided to share my experience. There are also some links of other pages that may help anyone intrested in Teen Missions.

If you don't already know, you are probably wondering what exactly Teen Missions is, right?
Well Teen Missions is a group which sends teams of teens all over the world on missions trips. Some teams go to build something for the local churchs, and others go purely to evangalise.
"The primary purpose of the ministry is to challange, train, and disciple young people, exposing them to worldwide missions."

My summer with Teen Missions
Well my summer started off at the Lords Boot Camp, this was a 2 week training course for Teen Missions. At boot camp there were over 1500 teens, who were destiened to travel all over the world with Teen Missions. We were all there to get the traning we would need on our missions.
When I first arrived at Boot camp I was welcomed by a sign that said
"Primative Camp, Enter at your own risk"
I thought what have you gotten yourself into. Well once I got off the bus I was greeted by one of my leaders. I then met some of my fellow team mates, as we went through the regestration progress, which was quite long, as most of the teens were arriving that day as well.
After the regestration, we were then led to our tent site, which consisted of a bunch of two person tents, set up in a big circle, with a bunch of logs in the center. After every one was setted in it was time for dinner. Once dinner was over we had some free time to get to know the people on our team and other teams, before rally. Rally was a "meeting" we had every night from about 7:15 untill (approx.) 10pm. It consisted of all of the teams gathering under the 'Big Top' having a good time singing and listing to different speakers each night. Rally was also the time they announce the results from the O.C. and Miss Piggy, but I will get to that in a minute. Once rally was over was had about half and hour to get back to our tent sights, and get ready for bed.
Each day of Boot camp began at 5:30. You had to be up and out of your tent in 5 minutes for the first 'count off' of the day. After that you were alowed to go back, and you had 10 mins, to tidy your tents and tent site for Miss Piggy. Miss Piggy was a Lady that went around to each tent site, 'Big Top' site and eating site. If you had any trash or anything out of place she would take points off. The team with the least amount of points at the end of the day, would have to clean the bathrooms the next day, Oh and their leaders would have to kiss the pig at rally that night. The ones with the most points got to swimming in the pool the next day.
Anyway after your 10 mins of clean up, it was on to the Obstical course(this was all before you had breakfast). Breakfast was next on the list of things to do, and after breakfast every one went ot their teams prearanged devotion spot. Once devos. were over everyone was back under the big top for some singing, and classes (like photography, cleanleness, evangilizm etc.. Then it was on to the 'tougher' classes, like block laying, carpentry, digging etc. After lunch we had another type of classes, which included, puppets, and music. We then had a hour before dinner for getting a bath, washing our hair, doing landury (all out of a bucket) or whatever we so desired to do, except sleep. After dinner was through, it was off to rally. That was pretty much an average day at boot camp.
After two weeks of boot camp it was a relief to finally get to the feild, my team's final destination was Argentina. Comming in to Buenos Aires in the plane we were al;l struck by the beauty of the lights (we arrived around 11:00pm). We then drove on a bus from Buenos Aries about 50 miles to camp Ce.Na.Mi. which was in the city of Escobar. The reason we were in Argentina was to build a dorm for the Open Bible Camp (Ce.Na.Mi.),we were also there to spead God's word. During the week we worked with a bunch of the national, who came from all over Argentina to help. We built the dorm, dug a 18ft. septic tank and put in a whole bunch of sidwalks around the camp. On the weekend we visited different churches, where we performed, with singing, puppets, a drama and testimonals. We also did two children's services, at which we did some animal ballons as well. We all enjoyed every minute of the time we spent in Argentina (1 month). The county itself was beautiful, and the poeple were so friendly. Even thought not many of us could speak spanish, we all managed to make friends with the local people. At the end of our time in Argentina, we all said a teary goodbye to our Argentian friends. It was time to head back to Florida for debreif. This was a week filled with seminars on how to come off of our spiritual mountains, and to get back to the world. It was also a time to say goodbye to a group of really good friends, who by now felt like family. Even though our team only consited of 19 team members (from all over the States and Canada, oh and Bermuda too) we worked hard and did our best to spread the gospel in Argentina.
